We welcome patients of all ages to our Cannon Hill Dental practice. By offering personalized dental care to patients at every life stage, we provide families with convenient continuous care, along with familiarity when it comes to their dental treatment.
By maintaining recommended dental exams and oral hygiene schedules, you can avoid many of the most common dental conditions that patients experience. We can help you prevent both periodontal disease and decay by monitoring your oral health and making personalized recommendations at each dental visit.
A child’s first visit to the dentist should be enjoyable and memorable for the right reasons. Our office makes a special effort to use pleasant, non-frightening, simple words to describe each treatment. We want you and your child to feel at ease from the moment you arrive at our office.
Preventive Dentistry
Of course, we believe it is better to prevent the disease occurrence than to treat it after it has occurred. Through preventive dentistry, we work with you to create a foundation for a lifetime of dental health. Regular dental exams and cleanings are an essential part of preventive care. We recommend you schedule a dental exam and cleaning every 6 months. At these visits, one of our hygienists will remove bacteria, plaque, and tartar from your teeth. These harmful substances are the primary causes of dental decay and periodontal disease. Then Dr. Ganji will conduct a dental exam looking for decay, gum inflammation, or structural damage to your teeth. Oral cancer screenings are also an important part of preventive care, especially since early diagnosis is an important part of successfully defeating the disease.
Our pediatric preventive services include gentle exams and cleanings, along with special treatments for children. Sealants and fluoride treatments can protect young teeth, preventing decay for decades to come. Research is also showing that regular fluoride treatments for adults can help prevent dental decay in up to 75% of patients. Wow!!
When to Schedule an Exam for Your Child
Routine dental care should begin at a very young age. Children should have their first dental appointment no more than six months after their first tooth comes in. If your child has already had his or her first tooth appear but has not had a dental checkup, schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
Children are at high risk for tooth decay for a simple reason: many children and adolescents do not practice regular, good oral hygiene habits. Proper brushing and flossing routines combined with regular dental visits help to decrease tooth decay.
Periodontal Care
Periodontal disease is an infection of the gums and bones surrounding your teeth and is one of the top reasons for tooth loss in adults, as patients may not know they have periodontal disease. During each regular checkup, Dr. Ganji will check for signs of periodontal disease and offer treatment options.
Sealants
Sealants provide teeth extra protection against decay and help prevent cavities. Dental sealants are made of a resin that bonds and hardens in the deep grooves on the tooth’s surface. The sealant makes the tooth surface smooth so it is less likely to get a cavity. With sealants, brushing your teeth becomes easier and more effective against tooth decay.
